Girl Powder Strikes Back, Queen of the Park Competition, Part II
The all female competition for snowboarders and skiers returns and is bigger than ever
South Lake Tahoe, CA (March 2, 2009) Girl Powder, one of the hottest underground women’s winter apparel brands, will be rocking Heavenly Mountain Resort on Saturday, March 28th, 2009 for their 2nd annual Girl Powder Queen of the Park competition. Tagged as an inspiring event with a feminine edge, this year’s event looks to step on the gas a notch, as Girl Powder teams up with Heavenly Mountain Resort in South Lake Tahoe to produce an even bigger event this year.
“Last year’s competition was incredible,” reflects Girl Powder Founder and President, Joel Lackovich. “Queen of the Park, or QOP as many of the girls call it, is not just about getting noticed and competing for cash and prizes. The real underlying theme is to build a sense of community while have having fun at the same time. I think last year’s event captured that, and this year’s event looks to build on those same expectations. We elected to combine QOP with the finals of Heavenly Mountain Resort’s Jackpot Rail Jam this year to really get the community excited, and really amp up the female athletes.”
The showdown for female skiers and snowboarders to show their stuff all starts at 3pm on Saturday, March 28th, when the first 30 girls that sign up in the GIRL POWDER tent will get the chance to compete later that evening at 6:30pm under the lights at Heavenly Mountain Resort at the base of World Cup. It is first come, first serve, and competitors will also get a free t-shirt for competing. One of the best parts about it is there is no entry fee this year for the Queen of the Park. When asked, the Girl Powder Founder and President said, “Why should there be? We do not want to discourage girls and competitors from coming out to the slope and competing and supporting this year. It’s a tough economy so keep your entry fees in your wallets and come out and play.”
Snowboarders and skiers will once again be judged on skill, originality, and personality, but this year the competition will be a rail/box jam format with a live DJ and MC rocking the slope and calling out the fun. Cash and prizes will be available to all winners, and Sports Basement will once again be providing recognition and prizes by also sponsoring the event.
